Sega Batman Forever Ball Drain

Ball Bounces to Outlane Instead of Returning to Play

Symptom
Ball exiting from the right wireform ramp (part #535-7109-00) into the outside right return lane sometimes bounces into the right outlane and drains -resulting in the player losing that ball in play.
Problem
Upset customer due to unwarranted ball drain.

Note 1 Sega Pinball feels confident that most players accept a certain amount of random ball movement on the playfield -this adds to the excitement of pinball. This particular area of the playfield appeared to have more than a random occurrence and that is why Sega developed this modification.

Note 2: The majority of you will have v3.02 software which will put another ball into play if this does occur so you may feel the following modification is not necessary.

Solution
Sega has designed a small but effective wireform rail that mounts to the playfield to the right of the ramp exit. This wireform will prevent the ball from crossing over into the outlane from the right return lane. Sega's EPROM v3.02 (part #965-0202-00) also will give the player a freeze or an extra ball if it detects that the ball was on the ramp and after exiting closed the outlane switch first. This also is true of the left outlane if a ball launches off the left ramp and falls into the left outlane the laser kick will be energized and a freeze activated.

Note 3 If the Laser kick was already enabled it will be activated again after the ball has been launched.

Parts
Wire Form 1-1/4" Rail - Part #535-7570-00
C.P.U. EPROM Part #965-0202-00-v3.02

Installation Procedure
  1. Using figure 1 for reference (omitted in web sample).
Measure 1/4" from the top post of the wireform ball guide that separates the right return lane from the right outlane. Place a small mark there.
  2. Using figure 2 for reference (omitted in web sample).
Measure 1-1/4" down from your first mark in step one. Place a small mark there.
  3. Using a 3/32" drill bit or equal, drill a 3/8" deep hole at each of your marks. Drill your holes on the inside of the existing wireform rail (the return lane side) right along side of it. Clean your marks and any wood dust from the playfield using a soft cloth.
  4. Push the wireform into the holes and if necessary use a small block of wood and a hammer to tap it down.
